Heritage Open Days 2024

Held at Reading Museum on 7 Sep/8 Sep and 14/15 Sep between 10:00 – 17:00

Interwoven Tales: Embracing Diversity in Diaspora:

A profound exploration of displacement depicted by refugees through embroidery. Each piece tells a unique story, forming a narrative of resilience and unity. The exhibition is the result of a year-long project which aims to engage viewers in a dialogue that transcends boundaries of language, culture, and geography.

Free entry to the exhibition!

“Interwoven Tales” delves into the rich tapestry of human experiences in displacement. Set against the backdrop of diaspora, each embroidered piece serves as a testament to the unique touch of feeling and experience brought forth by its creator. Collectively, these works form a powerful narrative of resilience, unity, and hope. From the initial stitch to the final flourish, “Interwoven Tales” invites viewers to engage in a dialogue that transcends boundaries of language, culture, and geography.

In addition to the exhibition, guided embroidery workshops will be available to the public. The artworks produced in these workshops will be added to an interactive, organically growing communal artwork displayed on-site, further enriching the collective story of the exhibition.

Join us in celebrating the diverse voices and stories of refugees and asylum seekers through the intricate art of embroidery.
