Refugee Support Group was started by group of volunteers in 1994, and our volunteers are still an integral part of everything we do.

In 2019, we were incredibly proud to receive The Queen’s Award For Voluntary Services, the MBE for Voluntary Organisations, as an acknowledgement of the tireless work of our brilliant volunteers.

Ambassador Volunteer (adhoc)

We are looking for an Ambassador Volunteer to work with our fundraising and events team.

The Ambassador Volunteer will represent RSG at engagements within the Reading and wider Berkshire area to promote and support the work of organisation.

This will be a much-needed support role for us (all expenses will be covered).

Office Admin Volunteer (6 hours per week)

Drop-in Lead English Teacher volunteer (Weds 10am-1pm)

We are looking for a qualified ESOL teacher to teach our clients every Wednesday from 10 am to 1 PM. 

Must have the following skills:

  • An ESOL qualification
  • Experience of teaching ESOL  in a group situation at different ability levels
  • Access to good ESOL materials
  • The ability to plan and deliver lessons using Sharepoint, digital projector, and IT in general
  • The ability to communicate well and be guided by the volunteer coordinator and her line manager
  • The ability to enthuse the volunteers, use their various skills well and show an example of regular commitment
  • A dedication to the clients and their differing needs in English learning.
  • Able to dedicate an extra 2.5 hours a week to plan lessons.

Friday drop-in volunteer (2 pm to 4 pm)

Reports to Ukrainian Resettlement Support Officer

We are looking for a Friday drop-in volunteer to work with our Drop-in Team.

Supporting clients, socialising and helping to create a warm, safe and welcoming environment. · This drop-in is mostly attended by Ukrainian clients, so proficiency in Ukrainian or Russian is highly desirable to assist with communication.

This will be a much-needed support role for us (all expenses will be covered).

Homework club volunteer (3:30 to 5 pm - term time only at a local school)

We are looking for a Homework club volunteer to work with our Homework Club Team.

Sixth form students at two local private schools help our clients’ children with their homework. Volunteer will coordinate sessions, liaise with parents and keep attendance records.

We are recruiting trustees committed to the support of refugees and asylum seekers.

Strengths in corporate networking, financial management, income generation and lived experience are particularly sought.

You will need to care passionately about the plight of people fleeing violence and the horrors of war.  You will have significant experience in chairing and organisational management.
